Women embracing the challenges of a changing world was the hot topic of discussion at the brilliant International Women’s Day event held on Sunday March 3rd in the Park Hotel in Dungarvan.

Expertly MC’d by local club president Anne Higgins, guests heard speechs from local garda Martina Collins, Dr Caroline Sweeney, organic farmer and new mum Mairead Costin, UCC Professor Leonie Heskin, they were entertained by the talented Roisin Clancy as well as Maggie Beathnach from Red Show productions, historian Sile Murphy and entrapeneur and founder of Dungarvan Pride, Emilene Stafford. Rosa Ryan, the local finalist for the national public speaking gave the audience a sample of what she will deliver on March 9th at the final in Dublin.

Speeches ranged from personal and professional experiences and reflections on key women in everyone’s lives was a common thread.

National President Aisling Nolan opened up proceedings with reflections on the changes in generations and the influential women in her life, and congratulations were offered by Lord Mayor of Waterford Cllr. Joe Conway.
