November is an exciting time for Soroptimist clubs across Ireland as we host the local heats of our annual Public Speaking Competition! Each year, the standard of speeches gets better and better, as young women inspire us with their eloquence, passion, and thought-provoking insights.
This year’s participants have been speaking on topics tied to People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, Partnership, and Friendship, guided by inspirational quotes from thought leaders like Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Ronald Reagan, and more. Here’s a taste of the themes they’re exploring:
Topic A: People (& Human Rights)
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” – Marie Curie
Topic C: Planet (& Environment)
“Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better.” – Albert Einstein
Topic E: Partnership (& Empowerment of Women)
“Partnerships are essential so women and girls are empowered to lead the change they want to see – they cannot make it happen alone.”
And so many more!
Two girls from each heat will advance to one of four Regional Finals, where the best of the best will come together to compete for a place in the National Final which will be held in Castlebar next April!
