Violet Bowler President SI Northern Ireland sent a message of condolence to President Miriam Murphy Wood regarding the very sad events in Creeslough Co Donegal.
“We’re all still reeling at the impact and loss of lives from the awful disaster in this Donegal village. Our own family has a connection through marriage to one of the deceased. Seamus has 1st cousins in Donegal, Una Black’s husband Billy, lost his niece, Martina Martin in the explosion.
The village and community will forever be affected by the events of that day. It is so sad for all the families, neighbours and friends. The survivors too will need a lot of support in the months ahead. It takes time to heal psychologically and emotionally after such a traumatic event, knowing that you survived but others didn’t.
I just want you and all our sisters in the National Association ROI to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time of national mourning in Ireland.
Miriam, please let me know how members here in the North can provide help and support where needed.
I look forward to meeting up at the Conference in Belfast at the end of the month.
With deepest sympathy Vi”
