President Miriam Murphy Wood warmly welcomed Maureen Maguire International President, the SI Ireland Executive, delegates and visitors to her home town for the National Association of SI Republic of Ireland meeting, held at the Kingsley Hotel on Saturday 3rd September 2022.
President Miriam read greetings from Lord Mayor Cllr Deirdre Forde who was unable to attend but wished us well and gave support for our work. Anne O Sullivan SI Castlebar was ratified as SI ROI Vice President by unanimous vote and Miriam detailed the results of the recent poetry competition.
Sue Karran, National Communications Officer gave a brief report detailing national social media activity and launched the new website, which was very well received. Other members of the Executive detailed their reports which are available to read in the ‘Members Area’ of this website.
Anne O’Sullivan conveyed the exciting news that we have secured a new sponsorship commitment for the Public Speaking competition for the next three years from our own Membership Officer, Siobhán Matthews, through her company SCF Global Campus.
This was followed by a very interesting recored Interview with Mary Crilly CEO Sexual Violence Centre, Cork.
Delegates were delighted to welcome Deirdre Clune MEP who along with Maureen Maguire International President, Sue Perry Ann Doherty, Joan Smyth, Darina Dolan & Margaret Geraghty launched the SI International Conference Dublin 2023.
Following the meeting, delegates had the opportunity to do a little light shopping via two ‘pop-up’ shops, one selling antique jewellery and the other beautiful handmade (in Ireland) leather goods. Club members mingled over lunch and had a relaxed afternoon which lead up to a lovely dinner where International President Maureen Maguire spoke about the SI President’s Appeal 2021-2023 Appeal: Opening Doors to a Bright Future. We were then treated to uplifting music from Munster Mix, a dynamic mixed barbershop chorus based in Bandon. Under the direction of Cherry Hartshorn, the group sang a variety of tunes including some golden oldies, modern upbeat numbers, songs from the musicals as well as ballads.
Everyone had a fun time catching up with friends and we are now looking forward to getting together again at the SIGBI Belfast Conference “Climate for Change” – from 27th to 29th October 2022
